We are about to enter into Holy Week and the great mystery of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. Jesus and the Church wants us to remember and renew—to remember how much God cares for us in giving his Son “as a ransom for the many” and to renew ourselves by joining with the whole Church in renewing our baptismal vows. Come! Join with us as we celebrate Passion Sunday and the Easter Triduum—Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. Remember to bring someone with you.
Today’s Gospel (John 11:1-45) prepares us to deepen our faith in Jesus as he reveals himself as “the resurrection and the life.” What Jesus does for Lazarus will also be done for the believer, but even more so. Lazarus is simply resuscitated. His earthly life is restored to him. Resurrection is about eternal life and that is the ultimate gift Jesus offers the believer. Lazarus will eventually die again. Those who receive the gift of eternal life will never die again.
In order to receive that gift we must be people who live in the spirit and not in the flesh as Saint Paul writes in the second reading (Romans 8:8-11). Paul uses “flesh” to designate life on earth without God. It is a life of selfish indulgence, prone to sin and destined for an eternity separated from God.
Paul uses “spirit” in two ways. Translators often capitalize this word when it refers to the Spirit of God and Christ. They generally use the lower case when it refers to the human person open and enlivened by God’s Spirit.
To live in the Spirit is to be open to the life Christ has come to give here and now. Eternity has already begun in our souls but the souls need to be nourished. Pastor William R. Grimbol writes:
The soul is nourished by taking time to do nothing.
The soul is nourished by having time to play.
The soul needs to be fed by the imagination and
intuition.
The soul needs three square meals a day: silence,
solitude and stillness.
The soul needs a daily vitamin of humor and humility.
The soul must be flushed out with forgiveness.
The soul needs time to chase beauty.
The soul needs to listen to the echoes of the Earth.
The soul needs to have prayer and worship in its diet.
The soul needs an occasional sweet of pure pleasure.
The soul needs to be exercised with acts of kindness and mercy; service and sacrifice; and love
and hope.
The soul needs a faith workout at least a couple times a week—a counting of blessings, a claiming of wrongs, a request for forgiveness, and a
commitment to love.
Taking care of your soul by living in the Spirit is already being in the life Christ came to give. All the
way to heaven is heaven.

St. Brigid - Sacred Heart Haiti Committee
Thank you to all who contributed to the fundraising efforts of the St. Brigid - Sacred Heart Haiti Committee. Because of your generosity, $16,000 will be given to our sister parish St. Francois in Fond des Blancs, Haiti to provide teachers' salaries for the 2005 - 2006 school year. The parish educates hundreds of children in its Center School and 9 smaller Chapel Schools. For them and for their families, we say, "Mesi Anpil."

There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten Commandments," answered the lady.
