You might recall what I said when we first were told we were to close. I compared the situation to a wife whose husband was very seriously ill. She would attend to him and all the while think about what he meant to her. During the days of illness the two would grow in love recalling all that they had been through together. Each would know what it would mean to lose all of this through a death. And yet, each would be overcome by the gift each was to the other. The truth is that I have never been at the deathbed of a person who did not embrace their life no matter how difficult it has been. This life and all that it was—the good and the bad, is bundled up and given to God.
Then, I added, what if the husband survives and his health is restored. Neither the husband nor the wife would be able to go on as before. Each would have discovered what they almost lost. Each would be bound together is a wholly new way. New plans would be made. New ideas would come to mind. Things that were not done but desired would enter into this new lifetime.
So it is with us. I could ask you what Sacred Heart Parish has meant to you. Who are the people you remember as influential in your life—some who have gone before us in death and some others who are still here? What events and programs helped you the most in growing in your spiritual life? What activities should we have accomplished that we may perform now?
Will you write a personal reflection on these questions and send these to me? If we stay open we will not be the same because we have died and come to life—a new life together. If we are forced to close, we will remember the words from the Book of Tobit: “Praise him, for though he has scattered you among them, he has shown you his greatness even there. Exalt him before every living being, because he is the Lord our God, our Father and God forever (Tobit 13: 1-8).”

Religious Education At St. Brigid’s
No Sunday Classes January 16th because of Martin Luther King Holiday
Our Seder Supper Lessons will be this week during our Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday classes (Jan 18/19/23). We still need help! Please call the religious education office and let us know what you can bring or how you can help us with this lesson.
GRADE EIGHT
In our 8th grade program we have a Respect Life/Human Sexuality and Abstinence program. This week Ms. Linda Thayer from the Archdiocese of Boston Respect Life office will speak to our students about what the Church teaches about abortion. Parents are encouraged to attend this class with their 8th grade child. We need all of our 8th grade students to bring in their permission forms by this class.
Last week 360 school supply kits were shipped to the children living in Iraq. Thank you to all of our families who so generously and thoughtful put together these great bags! We’d also like to thank Julia Zioto who helped coordinate this program and did all of the publicity, Linda Rosa, Catherine Nosack, Nick Russo, and Staples Inc. for donating shipping supplies. It was a great project—thank you!
All meetings will be held at either 10:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. (right after class for 7th and 8th grade teachers) in Jaye’s office. The second half of the year is so busy! Your attendance at these meetings is very much appreciated!
